About NovusTX Devices

NovusTX Devices was born from technology initially developed at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute from a collaboration between three researchers, two of whom then moved to the University of Calgary and went on to form the company along with two other co-founders.

Laura Curiel, President, Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Laura Curiel obtained her Ph.D. in Imaging and Systems from the INSA Lyon, France. Dr. Curiel has worked since 1999 in HIFU devices in pioneering groups using this technology for clinical purposes. She has extensive experience in biomedical devices and therapeutic ultrasound applications. Dr. Curiel is currently working on the strategic development of NovusTX Devices and she has also established a research group as an assistant professor in the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary.

Samuel Pichardo, Vice President, Scientific Development

Dr. Samuel Pichardo obtained his Ph.D. in Imaging and Systems in 2005 from the INSA Lyon, France. Dr. Pichardo’s expertise has covered different aspects of therapeutic ultrasound. A central topic of his research has been to gain a better understanding of the physics of ultrasound transmission through the human skull to develop better minimally invasive therapies for brain indications. Besides providing scientific support as a VP Scientific Development in NovusTX Devices, Dr. Pichardo is also working as an assistant professor in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Sagid Delgado, Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Sagid Delgado obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2020 from Lakehead University, Canada. He has been working in the design and development of ultrasound devices for therapy and imaging applications since 2015.
